YP Dubuque 1st Annual YP Symposium On November 15, 2007, Young Professionals of Dubuque presented the 1st Annual YP Symposium In Memory of Meghan Hackett at the Grand River Center in Dubuque, Iowa. This day-long event provided all in attendance the opportunity to network and participate in professional and personal development workshops. Joseph A. Michelli, Ph.D. opened the Symposium at 9 a.m. with his keynote speech “Taking Your Business to the Next Level - Lessons for Growing People and Profit.” Dr. Michelli, an internationally sought-after speaker, has been described as “catching what is right in the world and playfully sparking people and businesses to grow toward the extraordinary.” Dr. Michelli’s most recent book, The Starbucks Experience: 5 Principles for Turning Ordinary into Extraordinary has consistently achieved best seller status in the Wall Street Journal, Business Week Magazine and USA Today. Symposium breakout sessions included: Brian Dalziel, Dave Kratz, Bob Johnson, Rob Daniels and Phil Larabee’s “Growing a Sustainable Business”, Shirley Poertner’s “When Conversations Turn Crucial… What You Say Next!”, Rita King’s “Generations in the Workplace,” Mike Frommelt’s “Hiring the ‘Right’ People,” Jim Pederson aka Rocky Rococo’s “The Behavioral Characteristics of Success Beyond - The Power and the Dollar”, Joseph Michelli’s “Balancing Life Through Play and Laughter” and many others. As a special part of the 1st Annual YP Symposium, YP Dubuque presented an exceptional member of the organization with the Outstanding Young Professional Award in Memory of Meghan Hackett, the original visionary of YP Dubuque. So many people come in and out of our lives without leaving so much as a fleeting memory. Meghan left her mark with a smile. Meghan guided YP through its inception, kick-off and first months of operation with a passion largely unseen in the business world. At a great loss to YP and the Dubuque community, Meghan passed away in November of 2006. With over 180 members, YP Dubuque has grown significantly in its first year, making our community a more vibrant and exciting place in which to live and work. To become a member of YP Dubuque and get involved in the community, contact Lynn DuBord, Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce Project Coordinator, at ldubord@dubuquechamber.com or 563.557.9200. Membership is $30 a year, which includes discounted admission to YP events, special networking opportunities and Dubuque-area discounts. |
