Hillary Clinton visits Dubuque
We stood on a winding staircase at the University of Dubuque above the crowd
with hundreds of Dubuquers surrounding us on all sides when the
former
first lady,
current senator
from
New York and current candidate for president, Hillary Rodham-Clinton
took
the stage. She opened with a recap of her morning spent in Selma,
Alabama and that led into a summary of her take on major issue facing
the nation,
focusing strongly on universal healthcare, education, and, of source,
the war in Iraq. Following her speech she answered random unrehearsed
questions from the crowd including tough questions about pulling
out of Iraq, government support of scientific research, funding support
of college education and healthcare's failure to support birth control
medication while it will pay for Viagra. An energetic crowd was quick
to cheer at ideas that inspired them and it seemed that anyone who
wanted to wait around after the event could have had the chance to
meet Mrs. Clinton and get an autograph.
This was the first
major public visit to town by a big contender
for the government's top spot. (We have met Joe Biden and Evan
Bayh recently, but they were smaller events at private residences).
Barak Obama is to visit as well on Mach 10th. Watch for details
on
Dubuque365.com.
As
more
candidates
on both
sides of the aisle visit, 365 will try to be there as well to give
you an up-close look at the action. But you should try to take
part
in person. The sooner you see the candidates, the better the chance
that the event will be small enough for you to meet them in person,
if that's what you'd like to do. Until then, enjoy the photos below.

Hillary on Video
We took a couple minutes of footage to capture the spirit of the event. This
is not a significant recording of her speech or Q&A from the crowd.
But it'll let you know what if felt liek to be there. The Quicktime
clip is about 11 Megabytes. Click here or on the image to download
in now.
