Dubuque Jaycees / Radio Dubuque 2007 Fireworks on the River
Though an ill times deluge from above may have dampened spirits (and wardrobes)
after the show, I can honestly say that this is one of the
finest fireworks displays Dubuque has ever had. What a finale!
We were up on the floodwall early and the pyro guys warned
me to keep an eye out at the end of the show. So I knew it
was coming, but even then I was so taken aback at the massive
explosion and heat wave from the fire plumes that I forgot
to take a picture of it at it's peak. I got a shot, just as
it was dying, through the outstretched arms of a man in front
of me who, like everyone, was cheering the amazing 60 seconds
of mayhem they just witnessed at the close of the show. A wave
of shouts and cheers filled the air at the sprinkles of rain
started to pick up. A few short minutes later, anyone still outside of cover would be drenched to the bone. After the show we
just saw, we all agreed it was worth it and then some. Before
the big light show in the sky, Dubuque was honored with what
was also the best air show we've seen in some time. A steady
stream of flight teams took to the air to wow the crowd. For
me, the highlights included the amazing F-18 fighter skirting
the river incredibly slowly with his nose pointing up in the
air as if hovering down the flood wall like a rock stood on
end. A hushed silence spread around me followed by comments
of disbelief. (Continued on page 2)
