Dubuque Jaycees / Radio Dubuque
2007 Fireworks on the River
(Continued from page 1) We didn't just get to see amazing machines. We saw amazing machines doing truly
amazing things. With the skies covering with storm clouds,
the searchlights of the Golden Knights dive plane cutting
through the night sky then spitting sparks was a vision to
behold. I'm sorry that it didn't come out on the camera.
It was the kind of low light display that only the human
eye can appreciate. Parachutes dropping into the crowd, dog
fights with a Japanese Zero, sky acrobatics in a bi-plane
and an A-10 Warthog and team thrills in three matching vintage
fighters were just a sample of the rest of the show. Oh yeah,
no big deal but a massive B2 bomber roared down the river
a few times before heading of for a display Mount Rushmore
just a few minutes later. With so many years of incredible
air shows, we're getting a bit spoiled with the caliber of the displays. But even the fairest of fans could not ignore the spectacle
in the skies this year. We were pleased to be able to volunteer
all day with our Jaycees friends parking cars and directing
traffic. For them, the exhausted crew from Radio Dubuque
who work so hard to bring together a memorable show, and
all the city police and rescue personnel who also gave up
their holiday to make your safe, we tip our hats and say
big thank you for another great year. Thanks also to all
the nice people who kept offering us food and beverages as
we worked in the parking lots in the sun. And who ever made
the call on starting the fireworks 20 minutes early (Perry?)...
good call my friend. You saved the night!
