| Dubuque Night in Des Moines Dubuque Night in Des Moines made its triumphant return to Diamond Jack's at the State Fairgrounds list night. With the Upper Main Street Jazz Band ripping up some dixieland jazz tunes, the saloon style meeting place quickly filled to the rafters with leaders from across the State. Word has it that the House and Senate wrapped up early so they could attend and many State Legislators were indeed in attendance including nearly the entire Dubuque are contingent. And Governor Check Culver also joined the party at about 7 p.m. and took time to visit with many people throughout the night in casual conversation. That's the whole idea behind the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce hosted event. A pressure free atmosphere to celebrate our community amongst those from across our state who make the choices about the future of our state. A great networking event, it's also a chance for old friends to catch up, for once-upon a time Dubuquers to reconnect with the community, and a chance for all of those working to make Dubuque a continually better place to live work and play to toot our horn in front of people who's opinions matter. The move back to the Fairgrounds seems to have paid off big time, with a packed house and many comments about how much people enjoyed the atmosphere and tone of the event. With civic leaders from Mayor Roy Buol, City Manager Mike Van Milligen and GDDC director Rick Dickinson serving up brats and baked beans, this was truly and grass roots style party. Heck, there was even green beer. Below are bunch of fun pictures that capture the energy of the event. Now you know what you missed. And if you are in the pictures, we hope we didn't catch you with a mouthful of potato salad. Photos by Bryce Parks (and 1 by Mayor Buol). |
