Tri-States
Largest Chili Cook Off 2002
The Skies part for one more perfect day in the sun.
That pretty
much sums up the Tri-States Chili Cook Off 2002. Hundreds and hundreds
of Dubuquers flocked to Cable Car Square Saturday for a great day of
live music, kids games, football, beer, taters from the 365 guys, and
tons more food...oh yeah, especially chili. The entertainment included
the Dubuque Rythym Cloggers and the amazing Zydeco band, "We're Late
and Smell Like Beer" from Galena who simply stole the show. The Jaycees
were serving not just beer but chili as well right next to better than
two dozen other chili cook off contestants. This nationally sanctioned
chili competition saw more that 200 gallons of chili get eaten up in
just a few hours. The Hawkeyes played on the big screen while the kids
participated in a dozen kids games including inflatable rides, face
painting and more. Organizer Jan Feltes agrees that this was the best
Chili Cook Off ever. Considering the downpours we had in the three days
previous, we know who to thank for the splendid day we had on Saturday.
