Working from
a Mississippi Theme, the new waterpark will take on a look that
pays homage to both the graceful queens of the river, the paddlewheelers,
and the place they were born, the Dubuque Boat and Boilerworks.
A mix of fanciful decoration and ristic, old-world industrial accents
will put you back in the days when the local boatyard was turning
out new boat after new boat. Of course, you will get much wetter
than the average boat craftsman! This spectacular view of the waterpark
will be featured from the Holel's restuarant which will have large
viewing windows of the park on the south wall. Have a drink or a
quiet dinner while you keep an eye on the kids down below.
In our discussions
with Platinum Hospitality, the builders of the waterpark, we got
a real sense that they had thought through every little detail of
the park, from the way the floor would mix concrete with patches
of exposed industrial brick, to the artificial window vents that
decorate the walls to give the real look and feel of a riverside
industrial area. They even thought to put in giant (purposely) leaky
ductwork coming out of the walls. Is the pipe going to burst and
get me all wet??? Who knows? We will work to bring you more sketches
and real photos of the park as the project continues.
