Grand Harbor Opens... Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
Gallery 11 December 5th, 2002

With a huge crowd on hand and a veritable wall of media in the front row, Grand Harbor Resort officially christened the ship today with a ribbon-cutting celebration. Speakers included the Mayor (Terry Duggan), the Chairman of the Board of the Dubuque Area Chamber of Commerce (Nick Schrupp), Supervisor Jim Waller, Historical Society Director (and America's River Partner) Jerry Enzler, and of course Jim Rix, Platinum Hospitality president and C.E.O. We would like to thank Jim for his kind recognition of Dubuque365.com during the event. Jim, it was our pleasure to watch Grand Harbor grow week to week from dirt...to steel...to windows ...and waterslides. What an interesting piece of future Dubuque History and activity to be a part of.

Guests were invited to tour the hotel and waterpark following the cutting of the ribbon. We will update this archive very soon with some great shots of Jerry Enzler wearing a turn of the century bathing suit barreling down the waterslide and taking the brunt of the giant water bucket's force. OK, so that's it! It's open folks and it is time for you to grab your friends and make a weekend of it. It is sure to be a vacation to remember... especially in the dead of winter.

This will be the final planned photo archive update on the construction progress of the Grand Harbor Resort. We would like to thank Jim Rix and David Hockenberry for their generous access to their facilities over the past 14 months. We will continue to feature cool stuff happening at Grand Harbor and throughout the America's River Project but those galleries will not be a part of this series.
