Imagine
a wall of water! Much has happened since last we visited the
River Discovery Center. The structure is completely closed
in and work has begun in earnest starting the long process
of finishing the interior structure of the museum. Below you
can see the beautiful and bold effect of the heavy timber structural
used in the building. Grand open spaces will be awesome to
see in themselves, even when in the presence of amazing exhibits
and aquariums. Also pictured below are some shots of the concrete
formed shapes inside some of the aquariums, especially the
tree stump shaped forms that will appear inside the famed wall
of water nine feet high and thirty feet wide. At the bottom
of the page are photos of the train depot the sits next the
the museum. This historic structure will be restored to it's
original look on the outside and inside it will feature a cafe
for guests to enjoy. The final three photos show progress on
the wetlands and the exterior of the building. The building
will be sided with copper as you can see beginning now, and
the wetlands will be a shallow water area built atop a solid
gravel and earth base. The reason for this is to provide safety
for patrons who will walk along the railingless trail.
