The
Concrete work is nearly complete on the River Discovery Center. Creating
a foundation capable of housing both the sheer mass and intricate water
pipe accessibility is a daunting task for the designers, contractors,
and construction workers. With this huge portion of the project nearly
out of the way, the framework for the museum may very well spring up
very quickly this summer. Watch for a lot of very viable progress on
the structure in the coming months. One sad note to report. A large old
tree growing right next to the buildings foundation has to be removed
for safety reasons. Despite great efforts to preserve the beautiful old
tree which was hoped to be a living part of the wetlands portion of the
museum, the age and root system of the tree were found to be a significant
risk to the museum. The tree can be seen in the image below labeled "Old
Tree."
