A Bold Statement on the Horizon - Feb. 17, 2003 The Grand River Center has made leaps and bounds since we last visited in January. The entire steel framework appears to be complete and provides a clear visual outline of the building's final size and shape. A large portion of the structure's metal roof has also been put in place and just this week, the precast stone walls are being lowered into place forming the exterior walls of the convention complex. Despite cold temperatures and windy conditions, the work looks to be moving right along. Some of the photos below which feature vehicles in the frame do justice to the sheer size of the building. The sweeping curves and unique angles of the steel infrastructure hint at the striking views that will soon grace the Mississippi shoreline. The third and fourth photos in row 3 also show the lumberyard adjacent to the Grand River Center which was recently given government assistance to relocate, allowing for more tourism based growth at the Port of Dubuque. |
