Starting From the Ground Up - Jan. 10, 2003

The following images range in date from October of 2002 through January 10th, 2003. Actually, there is a before shot at the top of the gallery from much earlier. Then we get into an image of support pilings. These massive concrete base support features exists to provide a stable foundation to build on. The land next to the river is soft ground. Like the Grand Harbor Resort next door, the conference center has many of these important concrete pilings to ensure a very safe and sturdy building. Later in the photo series we see concrete foundations and walls being poured and steel framework construction underway. Finally, in photos taken on January, 8th 2003, the unique curved shape of the conference centers roof is easily visible. This early stage of the construction process is the most time consuming. Once the main framework is up, work can progress on the less -load bearing interior framework and floors of the structure. The bottom of the page also features a few shot along the floodwall where work continues to prepare it for pedestrian traffic.
