History
of Dubuque...and All That Jazz!
Dubuque…and
All That Jazz! emerged from the ideas of several downtown advocates
searching for ways to draw more people to downtown. July 24,
1992, Jazz celebrated its first concert with “The Salsa
Band” under the Town Clock. About 800 people were in attendance.
The following year, a concert in June was added, and attendance
grew steadily. Over the past 16 seasons, Jazz has been a resilient
presence in downtown, witnessing many changes, several expansions,
and even a hail storm. To date, some 8,000 people attend the
free summer concert series the months of June, July, August and
September.
Currently,
there are nine committee members that meet year round to plan
the summer concert series. This free summer concert series and
premier downtown festival would not be possible without the dedicated
Main Street board members, volunteers, as well as cash and in-kind
sponsors, believing in the power of an “idea.”
